This falls into 2 aspects. The item, its quality and purchasing experience. All good. This is a used DVD set, so the cardboard cover was a bit damaged - but nothing sepcial. The 5 individual disk cases are perfect and so far (I've got up to disk 3), the disks are perfect too. On a product level, that is superb! (but I'm biased). I watched this on TV back in the mid 70's when I was about 14, and for interesting, stimulating educational programming I think it's the best TV program ever made. It walks you through many of the aspects of the development of the human race (it is nowadays, a bit jarring to constantly hear Dr. Bronowski say "Man developed like this..." or "..the next step taken by man was..." I suspect the editors wouldn't allow that today. As noted it addresses anthropology, materials, energy and physics, culture, biology and other topics in an incredibly interesting and understandable way. Back in the 70's (before the VCR), I would sit in front of the TV, holding a microphone to the TV loudspeaker so I could capture the program on me little cassette recorder. I have been meaning to get this collection for the 45+ years since then. Now I finally have it, and am glad I do. Yes, I would definitely recommend this itemRead full review

Saw this series while in High School. Great then, still great now. Used to be offered as a college credit course. Didn't realize that the soundtrack used Pink Floyd...instrumentals until the eighties.

I first watched “The Ascent of Man” forty-five years ago when I was first in college. Now I get to review it with all my experience & see if I agree with Bronowski’s conclusions & beliefs about the meaning of man’s presence on this planet… exhilarating!

I am a fan of documentaries, specially those abot science themes. One of my favorites has been Cosmos, by Carl Sagan, which I consider an archetype ef documentaries. However, I have to confess that The Ascent of Men was totally unknown for me. So, when I found it and I knew it was filmed in the early seventies, I just expected to watch some kind of average value material. But for my surprise, what I saw was a piece of very nice artwork. The themes combined with the beautifully crafted narrative and those impresive camera shots made this documentary something that really deserves to be seen and enjoyed. 100% a five stars series full of meaningful connections that invite us to reflect on the value of scientific knowledge that must be used in creating a peaceful and happy society, for the good of mankind.Read full review

Great series on technology evolution. I watched this in the 1970s while attending Enginneering school and it was excellant. I bought it again to show my kids. You can't get this knowledge anywhere else unless you spent years at the library, yes the LIBRARY. This information does not exist on the internet. Great quality DVDs and good packaging. Somewhat slow shipping though, but worth the wait.
