About this product

Product Information

Chronicling the rich and varied history of Latinos in the United States, this companion to the PBS documentary miniseries vividly and candidly tells how the story of Latino Americans is the story of our country. Latino Americans chronicles the rich and varied history of Latinos, who have helped shaped our nation and have become, with more than fifty million people, the largest minority in the United States. Author and acclaimed journalist Ray Suarez explores the lives of Latino American men and women over a five-hundred-year span, encompassing an epic range of experiences from the early European settlements to Manifest Destiny; the Wild West to the Cold War; the Great Depression to globalization; and the Spanish-American War to the civil rights movement. Latino Americans shares the personal struggles and successes of immigrants, poets, soldiers, and many others--individuals who have made an impact on history, as well as those whose extraordinary lives shed light on the times in which they lived, and the legacy of this incredible American people.

Good customer service with Half-Price books! The book was listed in "very good" condition which was not the case. It had writing on many pages, highlighting throughout, etc. which is not what "very good" is supposed to have. I contacted them and they immediately apologized and refunded my total purchase price including shipping. I gave 5-stars because of their wonderful customer service.

The SFBC The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide was as described as "Very Good", but appeared to be in "Good" condition. Received the book in a timely manner, only concern was the shipping package which was a thin poly envelope with zero protective cushioning. Two messages with seller regarding condition of the book since a stock picture was used, whether or not it was a "library" book and the shipping method used...took a few days to respond each time.

  • A great conversation Starter of and About OUR True History.

Monumental! Mr Suarez should be recognized for this most excellent contribution to reality. The revisionism of history as applied by the majority in American Society has always marked the idealistic mentality and reality most desired for the Legacy of "America". In this work Mr Suarez, adequately, though not exhaustively, brings out a greater truth and a greater reality than that of the WASP understanding of our History. Detailing vignettes of the Latino American experience, Mr Suarez portrays an ignored fact, Hispanics were the first true colonizers of North America. Latinos were the appeasers and pacifiers of the native first arrivals and the System used for this purpose was much more humane than the slash and burn approach of the English who came in later with the goal of ...
