Synopsis
For centuries, ornamental robes made of buffalo hide and fur were painted with intricate figures and scenes by artists of the various Native American nations. A great number of these robes were brought to France in the 18th century, many of which are now housed in the extraordinary collection of the Musee de l'Homme in Paris. This volume, illustrated with more than a hundred color plates, presents a gallery of the hides with commentary by George P. Horse Capture, who also contributes an illustrated essay on the craft and history of buffalo hide painting. Three experts on Native American art provide introductory and historical essays.

    The plates arrived securely packed, and were cushioned to prevent them damaging each other and from being damaged during shipping. The shipping box was securely taped shut. The plates were as advertised and I washed them along with other dishes in my dishwasher. The package weighed almost four pounds and I think that the shipping cost was very appropriate.
