    Early history of the Texas Rangers.

    Elmer Kelton is really good at fleshing out his characters to where you come to think of them as family, or good friends. This traces the beginnings of the Texas Rangers until they were re-established after the so-called "civil war." There was nothing civil about it. Well worth reading, actually three books in one volume. Three books, but with the same lead characters in every one.
