  • Very thorough, well illustrated. For the serious beginner

Begins with essential knowledge of how wood grows, and how it is harvested and how it is prepared for use. Introduces quite a variety of tools and techniques. It's a little dated in tone, valuing clarity and rigour over accessibility, but if you're old-school you'll probably appreciate this. There are plenty of quicker, easier books for the beginner to dip into but if you're serious about learning woodworking from the ground up, this is to be recommended.
