A visually beautiful film, ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING depicts the biblical tale of a Jewish peasant, Hadassah (Tiffany Dupont), and her journey to become the legendary Queen Esther. Her parents were murdered when she was a young girl and she was taken in by her uncle, Mordecai (John Rhys-Davies); he raised her in Susa, a city of the ancient empire of Persia. Hadassah--beautiful, intelligent and passionate--was summoned among many of the kingdom's virtuous young women to be groomed as a possible new queen for the powerful and handsome King Xerxes (Luke Goss). Hadassah hides her Jewish heritage under advisement from her uncle, and changes her name to Esther. She impresses the King. He falls in love with her and chooses her to be his bride, and she becomes Queen of Persia. Soon after, Hamen the Agagite (James Callis), the King's Prime Minster, proclaims his goal of wiping out all the Jews of Persia, and he convinces the King to approve the plan. It is up to Queen Esther to announce her Jewish heritage and come to the rescue of her people.Peppered with many religious references, ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING conveys the message of divine destiny as it tells the story of a queen who continues to be an inspiring figure. Although the result of Queen Esther's intervention is well known, the filmmakers and actors do a superb job of building up the suspense and the desperation felt by all involved. The film includes a brief cameo by Peter O'Toole as the biblical figure Samuel, and Omar Sharif appears as Prince Memucan.

Not able to enjoy movie due to stopping and starting of movie. Frame freeze.
DVD is skipping (start and stopping through the movie) and freeze up in other spots. I have requested new DVD that works because i love that movie. I said "no" on the questions because defected DVD, not because it a bad movie. a great movie.

The best movie of the story of Esther!
This is one of our all-time favorites! The characters and settings are so realistic. It's the closest to the Bible story that we have found. The bible doesn't elaborate on some of the details so the writers have presented a plausible background in the timeline. The story of Esther is one that we learn a lot about God's deliverance of His people, and their deep belief in God's power. The character of Esther was perfect, much like I'd imagined she'd be. King Xerxes, about 40 according to record, is handsome and passionate. Mordecai, Haman, and all the other characters were chosen well and played the parts so well that you easily get into the story line. It's a great historical, biblical movie!

Wonderful film!
This is a wonderful film, rich with color, the costumes are amazing, the acting is great. I love the story of Esther, and the actress is wonderful. You can really feel the love that developes between her and the king. The climax where she goes into the throne room to see him keeps you on the edge of your seat, and of course the ending is wonderful.

Serious with great reward
This movie was excellent. It showed that one must trust God completely. It also showed our History has not changed much. We have cons, Liars, thieves, and manipulators. We aren't any better off today which is alarming.

Inspiring story of Esther who finds love while standing up for the Jewish people in a strange land.
My wife and daughters all loved this movie. She keeps showing it to her female friends.They all love the romance between Esther and the King. it shows a young Jewish woman put in a position to save her people ,the Jews from being slaughtered. For a epic type movie it has good production values for not being done by a major studio. Of course, these days they don't produce any movies about people of faith. I recommend this as an inspiring story from the Bible with good acting,

The Story of Esther
This movie is well made and provides an entertaining video adaptation of one of my favorite biblical stories. It is also very hard to find the DVD (and not available for streaming at this time), so this is worth adding to your library if you get the chance.

A movie that shows how God works over a long time in unexpected ways.
A great rendition of the Bible's story of Esther. Sets and costumes are fabulous. Only complaint is the volume of the dialogue cannot be increased. Music and sound effects are fine but voices are soft.

Worth Watching!
Not all movies based on Biblical figures are worth watching. This one is. This movie is very well done: good acting and plot resembles the Biblical narrative. Though not 100% Biblically accurate, it is a well done depiction of the life of Esther. I watched with the family, and would watch again.
