Years ago I read two books based on diaries, journals, letters and newspaper accounts of crossing the US in the 1800's. This movie is not based on a specific occurrence but does accurately reflect what women went through. There were advertisements for women who wanted to be wives for men they had never met. All the actors and actresses in this movie were trained to handle horses and mules, drive big wagons, to ride horses, and to shoot. Westward the Women
Saw this when I was a teenager and loved it. Not your typical western, because it’s the Women who star, front and center, in this film. And that’s what makes this movie stand out above the others. Gives a good idea of what it may have been like on a wagon train going west to California. Robert Taylor gives one of his best performances.
