The old addage, "You get what you pay for," well this is a low priced balun but it's frequency range is some what limited. You only get 10 through 80 meters with this balun. After exhaustive research on baluns and having read two full books and spoken to several engineers, this is a balun I would only use for the ocassional not the long term. This is great for mountain topping, "Field Day" and because it is inexpensive, it is good for the Ham who doesn't care for the entire spectrum. I like to build serious quality dipoles that will last through Yankee winters with tons of snow, ice, slush, high winds, shifting temperatures from sub zero, to the 30s in the winter to upwards of 100 degrees F in the summer. You must use a Trans-match/tuner to be able to go from band to band if you make it long enough. I like to use 134 feet as a general target in length. This balun will handle it, but you must keep in mind this is not a heavy duty balun, and can cause saturation of the ferrite core so long term keying of a microphone will sometimes cause static and excess signal to come back down the coax. When that happens your SWR can go up, and most modern radios will protect itself and reduce power. to assure conection I will replace the given nuts with nylon locking nuts, that won't back off. I built my local radio club a 134 foot long wire dipole, with "Flexweave 14" wire for the antenna legs, while using this balun because it was inexpensive, a great teaching tool, and an antenna club members can take and go places and get on the air as well as for the ARRL National Field Day event in late June each year.Read full review
