The XL4015 Step Down Buck power supply module is inexpensive and compact. I used it to step down a 5V DC power supply to 3V DC to safely power a device that normally required two 1.5V alkaline batteries. I didn't know which way to turn the potentiometer adjustment, but after some trial and error I was able to get the output I needed.
