The Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs SACD of The Band's Rock of Ages is like fresh ears for what is an old favorite. This has been my favorite live album since I first heard it when it was released on vinyl in the '70s. What sets apart this performance recording from many others is the quality of the original recording. MFSL makes the most of this recording. » The sound stage is wide and open. » Instruments are clearly defined. » Vocals sound natural and have tons of presence. » The inter-track crowd noise seems a bit thin despite excellent volume. » There is just enough crowd noise during tracks to keep reminding you that this is not a studio album. » There is little doubt that The Band is at their peak when they are playing. Each cut comes across as genuine and fresh. » The horn section elevates this music to a new level of sophistication and musicality. This is offered in a limited numbered edition. The packaging includes a multipage booklet, information about the systems used by MoFi to create the master all in a mini-LP gatefold paperboard album that mimics in smaller size the original vinyl release. If you like The Band you'll love this album. If you are not familiar with their music this is the perfect place to start. Treack Listing: 1. Introduction 2. Don't Do It 3.
