This review is for a used Roland Cube 30 purchased on Ebay. I have been an old school tube amp guitar player my entire 60 years of playing. It's funny how after so many years of playing, my priorities have changed from what tube configuration and speaker size to how small it is and how much does it weigh. When I first tried the Roland Cube 30 (an older one) I was quite frankly knocked out with its tone for a solid state amp. It is so light I can carry it plus my guitar in one hand! The clean channel is pristine and the bottom end is most impressive. The modeling side of the amp gives you a nice selection of different amp models which are very authentic. The reverb is smooth and the effects are a nice touch. Then, you don't need such an extensive pedal board. I have played gigs with it and it stands up along side a Fender Blues Jr. and a Deluxe Reverb. You can get the volume needed to project your sound, but the subtle tone when you lighten up your touch is incredible. It is my new best friend and I love it!Read full review

The GOOD: Love the size and weight. I use it for practice in two bands and gigs for one of them as well. I has decent (though not great) effects. The clean channel works very well, and I use a Hermida Zendrive 2 OD pedal with it, and I can absolutely nail Robben Ford/SRV/Santana tones. It can also go LOUD! It IS 40 watts for sure, in a tiny package. The BAD: The reverb pretty much sucks. Very ´processed´sounding, which is exactly what it is! Of course having a 10 inch speaker, it does not have hardly any bottom end, but you can´t expect a single ten inch speaker installed in a cabinet about 12x12x10 to sound like a 12" spkr. in a full sized cabinet eh? The UGLY: The OD Channel bites the big one. Horrible modeling. almost any other modeling amp, i.e. the new very small Line 6 modeling amp for example, kicks it's ass in this department. Back to the drawing board on this part of it. But for under $200? It is a keeper and usable for practice and very small gigs that you do not need anything except clean and OD FROM A Pedal. I recently replaced the stock sucky speaker with a high end Scumback 10 inch... WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Sounds like a real amp almost. Of course, the speaker cost as much as the entire amp, but it was a great upgrade.Read full review
I am a jazz guitarist/instructor. I bought this amp because I needed a portable and decent sounding practice/back up amp. This is a nice amp. It has a nice smooth sound. Some of You may notice its "digital"ness if you are used to using tube amps mainly (my main amp is Mesa Lone star). But it is good for what it is. Any college/university students who live in apartments would find this very useful for practicing in the bed room; the power Squeezer is a nice function to have. It would also work fine in a small jazz combo setting. This amp can handle small size gigs; you can connect the amp to a bigger speaker/PA/Cab if it is not loud enough. I'd use this for teaching lessons as well. It would be convenient if the foot switch was included. You need to perches it separately if you want one. Over all it is a good item. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a nice practice/back up amp.Read full review
I have used Marshall, Fender, Peavey and my most favorite amp is a Mesa Boogie. I have the 4X12, 2X12, and most recently purchased the 1X12 bottoms for my Boogie. For practicing and carrying to band practice my wife purchased me a RolandCube 30X. I love this little practice amp. The beauty is that is has enough ump that I have used it in smaller gigs in dining room restaurants and the sound is awesome. No wimpy little practice amp and it is so light my wife can help to load and unload. Great value for the money. Looked and played like a brand new amp. I would highly reccommend for a practice amp.
This item is fantastic. I had the micro tube and decided to upgrade to this one because of more power mainly. I am an amateur musician who plays with several instruments. It is not surprising how well it works with the guitar. What was really surprising was the great sound I got when I amplified my flute through the system...it sounds much better than using my Roland 60w keyboard amp. Can't wait to use it to project my clarinet and saxophones. The microphones I use for all my wind instruments were made by the now defunct SD Systems...from the Netherlands I beliece.
