The Mills Brothers were a BIG influence on Dean Martin (coolest guy that ever lived!) and you can see where Dino picked up his best qualities as a singer: smoothness, warmth easy going... These were all the essential qualities of the Mills Brothers. Most recent "best of" collections of the Mills Brothers have later re-recordings of their classics, and they are fine. But there is something special about the sound of their early recording, and this collection has a good sampling of their best stuff. All of their big classics are here: Paper Doll, Lazy River, Glow Worm, Across The Alley From The Alamo, Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You), You Always Hurt The One You Love, etc... You can't go wrong with these numbers! Plus, if you are a Dino fan like me, you'll listen to the Mills Brothers as they sounded when he was actually listening to them in his formative years as a singer (since these recordings are from 1941 to 1955).Read full review
I bought this CD after hearing it at a friend's house. I guess I had pretty much forgotten about The Mills Brothers and this brought back some wonderful memories of my youth. The CD is GREAT and plays most of their more popular songs. I would rate it excellent. A great CD for easy listening and harmony. You could not go wrong buying this and guess what??? You can hear and understand every word.
If you're only going to own just one single Mills Brothers CD in your entire life, this would be the one to get. If you're buying a Mills Brothers CD for the first time, this is the one to have. If you want to introduce someone to the Mills Brothers, this is the one to give. The Mills Brothers produced some of the best music of all time. It's great to listen to, and it makes you feel glad to be alive. My personal favorites from this disc are Paper Doll, Be My Life's Companion, Glow Worm, and You Always Hurt The One You Love. Be My Life's Companion makes great background music for a DVD slideshow of family pictures. If you're already into the Mills Brothers and want to branch out, I'd recommend hunting down some multi-disc sets. One of the best is a Reader's Digest 3-Disc compilation. It's tough to find and can be expensive on the secondary market, but the selection is wide and deep, and the music is to die for.Read full review
I love this CD. The smooth harmony always puts me in a good mood. It has all my favorite songs and I have really enjoyed listening to them all again. I once had a copy and then lost track of it, so it is wonderful to have it back.
