This product is superb. The only real issue with it is that it reboot upon just about ANY configuration change. So, for example, if you have offloading (off loading is when the device routes internet traffic via a local WiFi but without a reconfiguration of all your devices - as to save data) enabled, then when you configure it to attach to a new WiFi it will reboot. So, say for example, you are downloading a large file, and WiFi comes within range, you cannot configure the new WiFi to offload the data without interrupting the download in process. (this is a minor issue - as once setup it seems to work well and it quite stable so far. (I have pumped over 22GB in 3 days with 3 devices at once. The processor is a bit underpowered - and the WiFi offloading is systematically limited. For example, if you enable WiFi offloading it disables the dual band wIFi and from there you only have access to the 2.4Ghz bands which are significantly more saturated resulting in lower speeds. Plus, the CPU's packet forwarding capacity is limited in transferring data from one network device to another - which this device contains 4 network devices (WiFi 5Ghz, WiFi 2.4Ghz, USB tethering, and Ethernet). The device seems to cap out at about 30mbps when routing WiFi to WiFi (such as a cell phone to the Nighthawk to a local WiFi for offloading). But this could be the limited bandwidth provided by the 2.4Ghz) I would personally like to see this become an option - when you enable WiFi offloading you can select which mode you want to use) But I also cannot see the technical reason for this. I have configured linux kernels to do routing via ipchains with command line tools and can see in my head the configuration to get both 2.4ghz and 5ghz with wifi offloading. While this is a critical review of some features, please take away that this is an excellent device that far exceeds the capabilities of almost ANY device on the market - and it has unicorn features such as the ethernet port. Plus, Netgear has a reputation of steadfast reliable and stable devices. I would personally recommend that Netgear start marketing this device aggressively in the trailer/motorhome marketplaces.Read full review

I previously had a Netgear LB1120 which worked great until it didn't--suddenly it wouldn't connect to the AT&T network, even with a replacement SIM card. So I bought one of these Nighthawk units, the newest and top of the line MR1100-2A1NAS with every possible band covered. What I've noticed is the signal performance is really no better than the much cheaper (and older) LB1120. I suppose with external antennas it might outperform the old unit, and folks with great signal in a very populated area might benefit from its ability to do signal aggregation. But in semi-remote areas (we are in an RV in Arizona) it's just a more costly version of the LB1120. I don't use the battery either, so the portable capability is wasted--although I can see that it would be handy to use when mobile (the battery life is excellent).Read full review

Excellent product build and function! I live in a very rural area in the mountains and I'm really impressed at how well it works with WiFi range and quality of signal. I've had no problem with streaming or signal! Easily set up your user preferences, many options for use as main internet service or portable device due to remote area. I have one gripe - the unit is an overstock/refurbished unit and the battery had to be replaced because it failed to keep an all day charge like the device description claimed. So if you get a refurbished/overstocked unit get a new battery with it. Otherwise, product far surpassed my expectations. Great job Netgear!

I have tested the device with my AT&T service plan and it's been working fine. My only gripe with the device is that it can overheat easily unlike the earlier model which is the 815S. I would recommend the purchase however. I may need to unlock in the future however should I decide to change carriers someday.

Love the MR1100 I received from Dealscaly. Yes it is more expensive than a lot of other options out there but I have tested multiple hotspots trying to find the best option for my home and this is it. Consistently getting between 70-100Mb download and between 30-70Mb upload on LTE B2 at signal strength of around -85 - -90dbi or 4 bars. The MR1100 is connected directly to my WAN port on my Asus AC1750 Router and with the AI Mesh network I’m getting consistent and fast internet throughout my 3000sq ft single story home. I have a Wilson Pro 70 booster that was running a ZTE hotspot and was only getting 30d/12u and I’m thinking it’s because the booster is non MIMO hence the slower speeds. I have radiant barrier sheeting on my roof which blocks most radio signals so it was difficult for me to get a decent signal with any hotspot. The MR1100 without an external antenna I was getting ~ -115-119dbi signal strength. I picked up one of those cheap TS9 35dbi Gain Signal boosters and attached it to my MR1100 and received a greatly improved signal. My next test will be the 88dbi gain antenna to see if I can get an even stronger signal. Hotspots I have tested so far. ZTE Velocity - best for travel Netgear Unite Explore 815S - does the job but can’t recommend. Netgear MR1100 - ok for travel, best for stationary location like a home. Ethernet port - best option ever! So far I have setup 6 of these for friends and family in a rural Northern California area. These people were either on Hughesnet satellite, bridged Network’s or at the end of DSL lines where max speeds were 3m down and 256k up and streaming Netflix was impossible. Everyone is ecstatic with this device and constantly tell me how happy they are with this setup. Disclaimer. YMMV depending on the type of signal near your area. You should download an RF signal app on your phone to see what kind of dBi signal you have inside and outside your home. Read full review
