  • Cartooning the Head and Figure rocks!

I've finally completed my set of four Jack Hamm how to draw books. These books are all excellent. There's a tip to using them that I learned the first time I got this one in high school -- mine is a replacement copy. Skim-read the entire book. Just skim it, without trying to remember everything. That gives a good overview of where to look things up. Then when drawing, especially at the pencil stage, go looking up the specific thing you're drawing at the time and reread that page or two, study Hamm's illustrations. If you want to draw a baby for a greeting card, go look up babies on the Contents page. Everything is laid out handy for you for whatever you want to cartoon, and Jack Hamm goes into great practical detail on how to draw any kind of cartoon person or caricature. My only ...

  • Little dated, but the info is still valuable

I grew up reading my dad's copy of this book. After he passed away, I don't know where it ended up, but I do know it was falling apart from years of me using it. Glad I found another copy in great condition. It's been a huge influence on my learning to change up my artstyle, especially in designing characters.

  • Cartooning the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm 1982

I first received this book when I was but 9 years old. I have thought and still do that it is one of the finest books for teaching children and a super reference book for adults as well. I purchased this book now for my nephew who seems to enjoy doodling and drawing cartoons just as I did when I started on my love affair with all things art. Hopefully with this book and some encouragement along with some time to skecth with him he will one day pass it along to his children etc. I hope that he enjoys it and wears it ragged like I did with my old copy that I still have.

  • Great classic cartoon figure book

I had this boom 45 years, it disappeared , so I HAD to get another . Its great.

  • A classic cartooning instruction book

Jack Hamm wrote one of the classic books on cartooning. Cartooning the Head and Figure covers all aspects of the art and demonstrates many different styles of cartooning.
