One of the major family sitcoms of the late 1980s/early 1990s, ROSEANNE became popular for its no-nonsense attitude and its humorously honest portrayal of American life. With a set resembling the living room of countless family homes across the United States, the show concerned itself the with the antics of its main star, Roseanne Barr (later Roseanne Arnold), her husband Dan (John Goodman), and their kids. More like a regular working-class family than any other characters previously seen on television, the Illinois-bred Connors use brutal honesty and acerbic wit to raise their three children: rapidly maturing Becky, sarcastic Darlene, and precocious DJ. Meanwhile, they have to deal with the typical problems of an American family, such as annoying relatives, worries about jobs and money, and the struggle to find time for themselves. ROSEANNE was among the first shows on television to deal in a truthful and deglamorized way with everyday issues that average viewers could relate to--and it managed to remain funny and touching while doing so. All 25 uncut episodes from the show's fifth season are included here, as well as an interview with the show's star.

Funny as Ever!
I grew up watching Roseanne and just recently decided to buy all the seasons on dvd, the show still holds it comedic value over 20 years later, season 5 is just as funny and entertaining as the previous 4 seasons and Roseanne remained at the top of her game during the fifth season, I think it's one of the very best shows of all time. You won't be sorry if you decide to order any of the seasons on dvd.I grew up watching Roseanne and just recently decided to buy all the seasons on dvd, the show still holds it comedic value over 20 years later, season 5 is just as funny and entertaining as the previous 4 seasons and Roseanne remained at the top of her game during the fifth season, I think it's one of the very best shows of all time. Roseanne worked as a series because it never flinched. Positive and negative aspects of lower middle class American life were shown without aggradizement or shame. For those of us who grew up lower middle class, this is especially poignant. Mary Tyler Moore was about upper middle class, white collar women. Earleir attempts to address working class pople on TV, like The Honeymooners, had a none too subtle subtext of contempt for their subjects. Roseanne simply said,"these are my people,for better or worse". It's great fun to watch, and holds its w[power as a vindicating work to this day. But as we learn from the Beauty and the Beast TV series DVDs, it's possible to present wonderful material in a lousy way. I'm pleased to report that such is not the case here. Extras are minimal, but when the source material is this strong, who cares? Dealing with issues ranging from unemployment to dometic abuse, this is one of the strongest seasons of the show. It's worth having just to see John Goodman do Jailhouse Rock!

One of the BEST sitcoms
Roseanne was one of the best sitcoms made! I watched as a child and now in adulthood, I enjoy it so much more. Season 5 touches on abuse: physical and verbal, having a child (who is still in high school and 17 yrs. old) run off and elope, and learning to let go of another child who has been excepted into a college (hours away from home) and wants to get her GED so she can go to college and become a writer. "Roseanne" makes you feel right at home... the issues, the humor, and most importantly: the love.Roseanne was one of the best sitcoms made! Loved it. But then who wouldn't love having it on DVD at home. With an all star cast and some fo the best writing in to ever have been on TV, you can't help but love each and ever moment. From the light and funny to the sensitve, to the out right heart breaking, it's all there. Who could ask for more? Having the entire series, you get to see all those wonderful episodes that you missed when it was in prime time. You'll love it, so just buy it and be glad you did.Loved it. But then who wouldn't love having it on DVD at home. With an all star cast and some fo the best writing in to ever have been on TV, you can't help but love each and ever moment.
