Product Information

Writer/director Mike Binder's family drama BLACK OR WHITE stars Kevin Costner as Elliot, a wealthy citizen of Los Angeles whose wife dies in a car accident in the movie's opening scene. This leaves him alone to care for his young biracial granddaughter Eloise (Jillian Estell). Eloise's mother, Elliot's daughter, died in childbirth, and the girl's African-American father has been out of the picture because of his serious drug problem. Eloise's paternal grandmother, Rowena (Octavia Spencer) is a straight-talking self-made woman who lives with her large family in East L.A., and she decides that Eloise needs to be around all of her family now more than ever and sues for custody. BLACK OR WHITE screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

    A Surprise

    This was a surprising touching storyline. I had never seen this movie before. The characters were very believable. It was well acted. It was a topic not often entertained. What happens when a grandfather has a mixed cultured child to raise and has to fight for custody for it with the other culture, because they think the child need to spend more time with there "own kind". But this child is ALL you ( the grandfather) have in life to connect him to his dead family. Well, this was tastefully done. I apprecitated it because it wasn't about prejuduice at all. That was not seen. It was totally about how the child was loved and special for both sides, and the need for compromising so that ALL could get what they needed. Yes there were clashes, there would be, but I enjoyed the way the story ...

    Simple and to the point

    We had seen this movie on TV and wanted to see in its entirety. Also wanted our grown children to see it. The case was slightly faded, but the dvd was as if it were brand new. It is great to get what you want without giving an arm and a leg. We definitely will look again should we have a similar need again.

    Black or White (DVD, 2015)

    Great movie. It tells the story of what families are really like today. Families are no longer like Ozzie & Harriet, Leave it to Beaver or Father knows Best. The family dynamic has changed and this movie shows the struggles, the love and the meaning of what a family really is in today society. I really enjoyed it and hope others will get the same message I did,family should be the most important factor in your life and doing what is best for them should be number one always.
