Synopsis
An incredible journey "I don't know much, but I know what I know. I gotta go! I gotta go! I gotta go to Mexico!" The creepy-crawly bug doesn't know why she does what she does. She only knows she has to do it. But making the journey seems impossible for the slow-moving critter, who has no idea what or where Mexico is. Then an everyday miracle occurs, bringing a transformation that will help her fulfill her destiny. Each autumn, millions of Monarch butterflies migrate from the central and eastern United States and Canada to colonies in the mountains of Mexico, where they mate before flying north in the spring to lay their eggs. In simple, jaunty text and pictures, Sam Swope and Sue Riddle celebrate the amazing story of one of these intrepid bugs., An incredible journey "I don't know much, but I know what I know. • Great book for children and adults

I raise monarch butterflies--178 this year were released. This book is perfect for young readers to spark their interest in the amazing life cycle of these little guys. Gotta Go! Gotta Go is a great read for adults also. I have enjoyed it many, many times already.

  • Great migration story!

It is hard to find a good book on migration. This story works great when teaching 5 year old children. It keeps their attention, teaches, and entertains. They get involved with the little chant. I just purchased my second copy!

  • It's perfect! Especially when you know these caterpillars well enough to know when it's time for them to leave and go "walk-about"!

If there is one thing that I've learned about Monarch caterpillars is that "they just gotta go!" Every day of their lives they are on a schedule that drives them 24/7... starting from the mother's need to lay her eggs ONLY on a milkweed plant. EVERY caterpillar behaves the same as every other caterpillar. This book explains every step at a reading level a child can understand... but even as an adult who has raised MANY, MANY Monarch's, I think it's a lovely book. And the drawings are delightfully spot-on! I totally enjoyed this book and think it's a wonderful introduction to the world of the Monarch caterpillar for any child. I hope it sparks a need to know more about the world around us that we just don't take the time or effort to see and learn. It's amazing how little we teach ...
