Great historical information and delicious recipes

I was looking for the "original" cookbook that was compiled by the Wilkes family and sold at the restaurant in the early days. There are so many versions, in researching what is available, I felt this was the best choice for my cookbook library. I am very pleased with the content of the book, for the historical information, and photos of the family, and their devoted employees. The recipes are well written, easy to follow, and overall, I found this book to be a great read, whether or not I prepare the recipes it contains.

  • Famous Recipes by L.H. Wilkes Review

This is an excellent cookbook, even for the most inexperienced cook. The recipes are simply written, with common household ingredients that should be a regular staple to any pantry. As with some of the newer recipes of today, one almost needs a dictionary to learn the definition of some of the ingredients, but not with this book. Ms. Wilkes recipes bring back thoughts of earlier Americana with her wonderful recipes and dialogues. It is reminiscent of the small town American life that Norman Rockwell so vividly illustrated. This author reminds us that meals are to be enjoyed and shared with loved ones. Anyone that can purchase a copy of this book will be all the better for reading it, whether they actually try any of the scrumptious recipes - which, by the way, I highly recommend they do.

  • Love reading the history.

The recipes are simple and easy to implement. I had visited the boarding house years ago. The food is delicious and so are the recipes.

  • Good Ol Southern Cooking

Really an interesting cookbook. No fancy hard-to-find ingredients or gourmet complicated instructions. A good introduction to the good ol days, for us baby-boomers,
