    Everything you want to know about tree and then some.

    It is well detailed, but a bit intense for a novice. I know I will learn a great deal from this book, but I feel it is a bit too technical as a field guide for a newbie.

    Excellent Field Guide for the Novice

    What makes this book so useful is that it teaches the reader how to classify, for instance, simple or compounds leaves, alternating or opposite leaf placement, true of false end buds, chambered or hollow pith, and the words used to describe the structure of leaves, such as overall shape, venation patterns and margin descriptions. I never realized how complex forest life is until I picked up this book. It will be a great help me as I move forward with my new hobby.

    a GREAT reference guide

    I use this book for a class at the University at Buffalo... It is a great reference guide. For any nature lover, you will find this book very useful! Once you figure out the best way to classify your trees and shrubs (limbs alternating or opposite, etc.), you can figure out just about anything in there.
