    Excellent & Useful Field Guide

    This is an excellent, useful and practical field guild to the historic & modern styled homes built throughout America. The detailed drawings, descriptions, and author's comments are very informative. The photographs & examples of the residential styles constructed throughout America are also very interesting. This older edition is still useful and a good value compared to the latest updated version.

    Guide to the smaller details of early-day through present American architecture

    This book is the answer for those of us who love to look at homes, but lack the background to identify specific parts of architecture. Until I obtained this book I could only point and say "you know...that part that is between the bottom of the roof...and the the top of that odd-looking window...you know? Isn't that pretty?" I've read and reread this book! I am beginning to have confidence as I point out various types of dormer windows...arches...doors. It makes it so much easier to ask questions...and obtain answers...when one no longer must hopelessly point :....you know, that thing pointing out over there? Isn't it interesting?"
