I used the thread and needle to repair a pair of Shoezone sandals. It would probably also work on Birkenstocks. The thread is certainly strong, though the cut ends seemed to unravel easily. The needle is massive - you don't get them this size in a hotel sewing kit (the location of my first - semi-successful - repair attempt). I've still got a metre or so of thread left, so I'm well-prepared for further footwear-related mishaps.

Very good transaction, the machine came a couple of days after paying for it. Excellent customer service tracking emails were sent and very quick to reply to a couple of general questions. I have no hesitation in recommending the retailer. I elected a fully built machine and it came on a pallet so you definitely need someone at home to take delivery which is a kerbside delivery or in your driveway. Then you need to handle it with care as Its well wrapped up and secure. No problems experienced.
