About this product

Product Information

This volume surveys the intellectual roots of modern scientific racism which have formed the basis for racial segregation in South Africa. Dubow proposes that it is no longer possible to counter daily racism without understanding the extent to which theories of racial difference formed part of the ideology of white supremacy in 20th-century South Africa. Focusing on the late 19th to mid-20th century, he argues that racial theory was more strongly present in South Africa than has previously been acknowledged. This book marks a significant shift towards a post-apartheid understanding of race and examines why the history of intellectual racism in South Africa has been ignored. Drawing extensively on comparable studies of intellectual racism in Europe and the United States, Dubow shows that the distinct style of South African eugenics was a result of the peculiar articulation of race and class in South Africa. These linked studies range broadly across disciplines in the sciences, humanities and social sciences.

A difficult set to find online in good shape and at the right price with the shipping from UK sellers. So I am very pleased with the purchase. Seller responded quickly to a shipping question, even while away. The items arrived in excellent shape, truly as new condition as described, thanks to the careful packing. Very pleased, HIGHLY RECOMMEND this seller in Birmingham, UK, even to American buyers.

Postage was free so what is not to like and the book arrived within 24 hours. It was as described and looks unread. The book was sturdily and safely packed and altogether was incredible value for money. Seller accommodated a delivery request and at no extra cost, so very happy with the whole transaction experience.

This purchase arrived exactly as described, as new, unread condition. Excellent price agreed. Posted for next day delivery, arrived on time. Superbly packaged (as always) in bubble wrap in middle of sturdy box filled with polystyrene. Have bought, with confidence, from this seller many times before and will continue to do so in the future. Gives me great pleasure to be able to thoroughly recommend him to one and all, Kind regards, Tony
