The 1978 World Cup, in Argentina, was a focus of world attention, during huge political unrest. England did not qualify but Scotland did, and performed well with some of their greatest players. Brazil and Italy featured strongly, but Mario Kempes stole the show for Argentina with two goals to beat Cruyff's excellent Holland side.
