Notes
Limited vinyl LP repressing of this classic album. American Pie is the second studio album by Don McLean. Containing the chart-topping singles 'American Pie' and 'Vincent,' the record reached number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold within six months of release. Recorded in May and June 1971 at The Record Plant in New York City, the original 1971 LP is dedicated to Buddy Holly. McLean recorded his debut album Tapestry in 1969 in Berkeley, California, during the student riots. After being rejected 72 times by labels, the album was released by Mediarts, a label that did not exist when Don first started to look for a label. It attracted good reviews but little notice outside the folk community, though on the Easy Listening chart "Castles In The Air" was a success, and in 1973 "And I Love You So" became a number 1 Adult Contemporary hit for Perry Como. McLean's major break came when Mediarts was taken over by United Artists Records, thus securing the promotion of a major label for his second album, American Pie. The album spawned two No. 1 hits in the title song and "Vincent". American Pie's success made McLean an international star and piqued interest in his first album, which charted more than two years after it's initial release

An amazing experience with this seller. My Item arrived early, which is rare, and was very well packaged for it's trip through the mail. The price was perfect. The item I received was in the exact condition as stated in the listing. Maybe best of all was that the seller was very communicative when I had questions about the item. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again in the future!

Item was as advertised & arrived well packaged. As many other reviewers stated, it took a week to get tracking information, then 6 more days before the shipping company (DHL, in this case) received the item, and then just one day to be delivered. The listing estimated delivery between 3-8 days; it took 14. No correspondence in the meantime. I'd checked the seller's feedback before ordering, however, so I expected it. If you can wait a couple weeks to receive your order, this seller is fine.

  • A reissue the way it should be done!

Until I purchased this brand new signed vinyl copy of Don McLean's *American Pie,* I was unaware that Capitol Records, having taken over the now-defunct United Artists label, had reissued the album a few years ago. The reissue includes all of the tracks on the original album--the track "Sister Fatima," having regrettably been omitted from some bargain reissues in the 'nineties, is restored here--and even includes the printed inner sleeve with McLean's free verse poem honoring Hopalong Cassidy. This is a reissue the way it should be done, and the autograph makes it all the more precious. I already count it among my most cherished possessions.
