I completely agree with your assessment of the excessive shipping costs. The United States Postal Service charges $4.75 to ship a 4 ounces package with tracking and unfortunately eBay demands tracking from its sellers in order to not get dinged on the selling account. Of course, eBay does offer cheaper standard envelope shipping rates for sports cards, stickers and postcards. However, those are not available for sewing patterns.
