  • Great 'old fashioned' family viewing

This series is a feel good drama about a country village GP in the 1950's. Top class actors play the main parts of the father and son GP's. All the characters in the village are very likeable and although not described as a comedy drama there is a lot of humour and some very funny incidents for the residents of the village. As the story progresses through the episodes more is learnt about the people in the village and the social and economic conditions of the period. The serious side of the story obviously centres around the start of the National Health Service and the effect that that had on small practices and Cottage Hospitals such as the one featured in the story. Great to see it on DVD as i enjoyed watching this first time around on the TV.

  • Born And Bred Series 1

This truly is a Wonderful Drama Series, which was set in the 1950s era. It focuses on Father and Son Doctors in a fictional village in Lancashire called Ormston. Each episode tells a story of the different residents in the village. It also has a phenomonal cast: here are just a few of them. Michael French plays Tom Gilder( A Young Doctor, Son of Arthur Gilder) James Bolam plays Arthur Gilder(An Older Doctor, Father of Tom Gilder) Jenna Russell plays Deborah Gilder (Wife of Tom,Chairman of Parish Council, and Mother of three children). It was a truly wonderful drama series , perfect for sunday evenings.

I have not watched it yet, but did so on tv and this is reason i bought it. I used to wztch every week or tape it and watch back. very funny, sad too, but locations are nearby and interesting too see where they have used and how done the village or towns to look as though it back in time. Depends on your taste but very enjoyable series and this is the reason i bought this. Hoping to collect the full series at some point.
