Additional Information
In the Middle Ages, before television or professional sports, there's only one form of competition to separate the men from the boys--jousting tournaments. William Thatcher (Heath Ledger), a poor and humble squire, has always dreamed of proving himself worthy as a knight in a jousting match. When he gets a lucky chance--seeing an opportunity to disguise himself in the identity of a knight--William decides to maintain the illusion for as long as possible. He is aided by his friends Wat (Alan Tudyk), Roland (Mark Addy), and Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany, in a role loosely based on the real storyteller)--a writer with a knack for forging official papers. Under his new title, Sir Ulrich of Liechtenstein, William wins tournaments and receives monetary awards. However, the only way for William to prove himself as truly noble--and win the heart of the beautiful Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon)--is to beat out all of his enemies, including the arrogant and undefeated Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell), in a series of jousts. Writer-director Brian Helgeland creates a unique blend of rousing adventure, comedy, and modern sensibility in A KNIGHT'S TALE, giving a contemporary make-over to the medieval genre with a soundtrack that includes hit songs from Queen, David Bowie, Sly & the Family Stone, and Thin Lizzy.
Reviews
USA Today - ...[Bettany's] silver-tongued exaggerations of the jousting jock's brave deeds and mighty stature before each match are great fun..., Total Film - ...The easy charm of Ledger and the chemistry with his buddies make the training scenes a treat..., Sight and Sound - ...Sometimes great fun....Heath Ledger does handsome and sincere well..., Rolling Stone - ...It's dazzling....And fun..., New York Times - ...An impressive ensemble; there aren't many movies in which the actors use their voices so well, making each line reading memorable..., Box Office - ...A KNIGHT'S TALE delights in comparisons to present-day sport....[Bettany] is especially delightful...

  • Copy?

I bought this because I had seen it before, and thought it a good, entertaining movie, suitable for family viewing. Although I liked the film, it was obviously a (excellent quality) copy, because none of the additional features worked, such as extra scenes, interviews, commentary etc. The DVD just played the movie, and nothing else. However, as it was so cheap, I did not worry too much about this. There are far too many of these counterfeit copies slipping through the net on ebay, and I think it is sad we are being ripped off by unscrupulous sellers.

  • Brilliant film

This film has just about everything in it you could wish for,the Heroe(the late great Heath Ledger)the Villain(the fabulous Rufus Sewell) and music that is fantastic, great humour and send ups to keep you rolling around with laughter. The only fault is the fact it has to end, lol.

  • Value for money enjoyed

A story brought up to date with modern music, quite funny in places surrounding a traditonal rags to riches love story.

  • A KNIGHT'S TALE and the waste of a night

THE KNIGHT’S TALE. I acquired this DVD this as I wanted to get more of a handle on the tragically truncated career of Heath Ledger. Sadly it shed no light at all. I was also tempted by it being one of Chaucer's tales, - yes a tale, a vignette, not a padded out film of two hours long. Stylistically this film is very challenging as it suddenly overlays a medieval courante with contemporary rock music from the likes of Queen & Robbie Williams. And quite frankly, seeing big ensemble numbers supposedly at the court of Edward the Black Prince jigging around like stoned tarts at Glastonbury just doesn't inspire or elevate the mind , (and completely stretches the realms of plausibility!) Yet the film is clearly set in medieval times(well difficult to stick a film about jousting anywhere ...

  • A Knights Tale - A fabulous family film!

This is a wonderful film with something for everyone in the family. When I bought it my daughter was 13 and my son 7. The action and adventure, excellent jousting and swordfighting scenes thrilled my son, whilst not being too graphic or glorifying fighting. My daughter and I loved the romance and historical aspects, the costumes and pageantry, and the humour, especially Chaucer, played by Paul Bettony, the bloke from the film "Wimbledon". My husband loved the soundtrack with music from Queen, David Bowie, and Thin Lizzy. Starring the sadly recently deceased Heath Leger at his most gorgeous, this is a medievil action packed romance, with humour, adventure and masses of action. Heath plays William Thatcher, a poor steward to an innefectual knight, who takes up jousting when his master ...
