Classic chiller, disappointing vide0o.
One of the all-time science-fiction/terror classics from the 1950s is the original B&W INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS directed by Don Siegel. It remains an effective mixture of horror and cold-war type paranoia. Unfortunately, while the quality of the print used is excellent, the distributor/manufacturer, Oliver Films, does its usual tactic, namely just providing but nothing else, not even the trailer for the movie. If you bought it commercial in a store, if you could find it, you would pay probably nearly $20 or a bit more. But all you would get is the feature. Period. The previous release, via Republic Pictures Video, before it was bought up by Paramount Picture...of which I am sure that Olive Films is a subsidiary of...had extras, including the original trailers (in full screen) and a TV interview with the film's star, Kevin Mccarthy from the 1980s. If you can find that edition, in the Silver Screen Classics series, on ebay. Both editions are low priced but if you buy the Olive Films version (which has the original poster art on the cover) be prepared to get just the feature and nothing else. One of the great all time Sci Fi movies
When I think of the great Sci Fi films ever produced, this movie stands at or near the top of my list. It has stood the test of time. Very suspenseful and a real bone chiller of a movie. Very realistic in it's tone Very insidious in it's plot, as people in the movie start noticing that their friends or relatives are different in some way and that something has changed about them and have become complete strangers to them.. Kevin McCarthy stars as a doctor in this movie, who after hearing some of these assertions from his patients & other people begins to suspect that it is more than just their imaginings.
