I love it.
Bought this because I wanted LW as well as DAB - most DAB radios only have FM. The whole quality is superb, looks, sound/tone and ease of use. The radio is solid, not excessively heavy and has a built-in handhold, but it is not a radio to carry around with you. The remote control is a brilliant feature, especially if, say, you are in bed and can't reach the radio. It's not hard to learn the basic buttons. The only things I would change if a new version were to be made would be: (1) the backlight: when the radio is off there is no light so you have to switch on to look at the time; when the radio is on the backlight is very bright, even on the lowest setting, which may keep you awake when using the sleep function. (2) the standby function is useful as an alarm, but it would not wake me ... Bought this because I wanted LW as well as DAB - most DAB radios only have FM. A Great Way to Dabble with DAB
Not being certain what reception would be like for DAB in West Wales I checked the DAB info. websites and found that I might receive a list of stations but it was by no means certain. I checked out the offers on eBay and liked the look of the Sony XDRS1 DAB Radio as it is a brand I trust that offers reliability, stylish looks and great audio performance. My choice was finally clinched by a great "buy now" offer that allowed me to take a chance with the technology without breaking the bank. Despite the fact that no instruction manual was included, it was a no-brainer to set up. Just switch on, it asks you to select auto-tune and then you sit and watch as a line grows to fill the display. Well, I thought I was in a no-reception area as there was no indication that the search was successful ... Then I press the next station button and there was another, then another and so on, all with excellent sound quality. For a small box, with mega-base switched on, it gives an impression of a much larger device and if you close your eyes you soon get lost in the broadcast completely unaware that you are listening to a small (if stylish) little plastic silver box. I suppose the only drawback is that the stored station settings are not retained for any length of time if not plugged in to a live power source. For me this doesn't matter as it will sit in my bedroom permanently plugged in with the remote control in easy reach on my bedside table. So I now have a great radio for a very reasonable price and I am sure I will enjoy many hours of happy listening without using my Sky box and TV with a blank blue screen! If you would like to listen to radio with CD clarity and you are lucky enough to find one of these splendid little Sony devices at a price that suits your pocket then don't hesitate as you are unlikely to be disappointed with your purchase.

SONY XDRS-1 DAB RADIO
Bought this DAB radio recently and found it an absolute joy. I've never been a great fan of the retro wooden box type radios that seem to have flooded the market. The Sony looks great with its silver finish and large digital display. I've heard people moan about the sound quality of some units but hey, it's a radio !! I'ts not like its meant to be the main unit in the house ! The Sony has great sound quality and with the Mega-Bass facility, you can tune it to your preference. Great digital display with scrolling text, 10 presets and the very rare option of LW / MW / FM. Not many of the newer DAB's have this facility. This is my first DAB and i'm glad i bought the Sony, even though its now discontinued. There are probably 'Better' radios out there but if you dont want to spend a ...
