Excellent live performance of misplaced childhood in its full form, and some fish solo numbers, very enjoyable.

Fish is one of our very best live rock performers. Unfortunately this fact is lost on the majority of the public who have long forgotten about him. However he has been sustained by his loyal fan base and regularly tours with a small, tight and highly professional band. This double CD is a live recording of a show in Tilburg, Holland in 2005. It was part of Fish's 20th anniversary tour of his highly acclaimed Misplaced Childhood solo album. The CDs are in a very nicely made fold out double digipak produced by Snapper Music. The set has a quality feel. CD1 contains songs from Fish's solo career and CD2 contains the whole of Misplaced Childhood. The standard of the recording is excellent with a great stereo mix. All instruments and voices are clear and correctly balanced. I particularly liked the drum sound quality. There is very little crowd noise left in, which is how I prefer live recordings. Fish says very little on the CDs but we all know that at these shows he speaks frequently between songs and is expert at handling the rowdy elements. Normally I do not like much speech left in on live recordings (it can often sound embarrassing in the cold light of day!) but in this case just a little more may have added to the atmosphere. So what of the performance? In a word brilliant. Fish is such an exciting singer and throws all his energy into selling his songs. This album is a realistic snapshot of a singer still at the top of his powers. He has had to adapt to a lowering in his vocal range over the years but the sheer physical energy and passion are still there. He is aided by a great band who do him proud. All in all a tremendous purchase and thoroughly recommended.Read full review
Marillion was one of my favourite bands as a young man, and I was devastated when Fish left the line up. I had seen Marillion in the UK several times, including their show-stopping performance at Monsters of Rock, Donington Park, as well as twice in Germany. Since I have followed 'The Fish' and seen him in concert many times. This latest CD is a further re-hash of several post-Marillion live versions (CD1) and on CD2, is a 2006 live recording of 'Misplaced Childhood' in its entirity, plus an encore of Marillion greats - Fugazi, Market Square Heroes, etc. If you liked Marillion and Fish, this is a great trip down memory lane, with really great sound. That it has great packaging too is an added bonus.
