Characteristic Sandler humor. Anyone who likes his other work will like this. He plays an angry fellow, with life going nowhere. With some changes, and some good advice, things improve. It is a lesson story buried within lots of humor and schtick. Anyone contemplating a viewing of Little Nicky, another Sandler work, should see this first. There is a small reference made which is better understood if Happy Gilmore is seen first. We are big fans of Happy Madison productions in my home.

Happy Gilmore isn't Adam Sandlers best movie ever - but its up there. And part of whats great about Happy Gilmore is its absurdity - after all, this is a comedy about a professional hockey player turned golfer who drives the ball with a hockey stick (sure its legal!) and chases down Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) for the #1 player on tour. Makes sense right? Anyhow, if you suspend all belief - its a good time and fun movie. The cameos are the best part too: Carl Weathers, Bob Barker, Lee Travino, etc.
I thought it was a good movie, it has some pretty funny parts. The downfall to the movie is that the plot is pretty predictable and only the characters of Happy and Chubs are really interesting and stand out. The other characters are pretty bland, especially the typical villain/bully and love interest. Overall it is a good movie though, it's pretty funny and entertaining

Happy Gilmore is a rowdy boy, who was raised by his grandmother. He wants to be a hockey player but isn't because of one thing, he can't skate. When his grandmother's house is foreclosed cause of her failure to pay her taxes, and she's placed in a retirement home, Happy must try and find a way to make some money. One day while at a driving range, he discovers that he can hit a golf ball a hundred feet, so the range pro, convinces him to try being a pro golfer. Reluctant at first, because he considers himself a hockey player, but when he learns he can make a lot of money, he gives it a try and surprisingly, in addition to his amazing driving ability, his antics have made him the darling of the crowd. Shooter McGavin the tournament leader, thinks that Happy's an embarrassment and is jealous that he is stealing his spotlight, tries to get him thrown out or get him to quit. "Happy Gilmore" is the Adam Sandler movie to see. This whole movie is one hilarious moment after another.Read full review
