Reviews
Channel 4 Film - Though ostensibly action sci-fi, McGuigan's film pushes the boundaries of genre, playing out its paranormal parameters like a game of multi-dimensional chess, Empire - Thrilling... X-MEN meets TRAINSPOTTING

Additional Information
Scotsman Paul McGuigan (WICKER PARK, GANGSTER NO. 1) directs this high-energy sci-fi thriller set in Hong Kong. Nick (Chris Evans) is a 'mover', meaning he can move objects with his mind. As a child, he escaped from Special Agent Carver (Djimon Hounsou) of the Division, a U.S. government operative who rounds up those with psychic gifts so that the government can perform experiments on them with the goal of creating a psychic army. Ten years later, Chris is lying low in Hong Kong when 13-year old 'watcher' Cassie (Dakota Fanning), who can see the future, shows up on his doorstep. Together, this odd couple sets off on an adventure that brings them to Kira (Camilla Belle), who has escaped the Division and is on the run. Kira possesses a dangerous gift: she is a 'pusher' who can plant ideas and make anyone believe anything she wants. Along with some other psychic friends, Nick, Cassie, and Kira go on a frenetic quest that may bring down the shady Division and set its psychic captives free.

PUSH's psychics are a bit closer to superheroes, albeit without the costumes: 'sniffers' can see the recent past by smelling an object, 'shadows' can keep people and objects hidden, 'shifters' can temporarily change the appearance of an object, and so on. The special effects in the fight scenes featuring Agent Victor Budarin (Neil Jackson), who can shield himself from bullets and send people flying across the room with a whisk of his hand, are particularly well done. Evans holds his own as the reluctant hero, and Fanning is, as always, a formidable presence on screen. Hong Kong itself is another character in the film, providing a crowded, fast-paced, anonymous backdrop for the action.

  • PUSH - Science Fiction/Fantasy

The plot offers an interesting view of psychic powers. The main characters break down into Movers and Watchers, Pushers, Stitches, Sniffs, Shadows, Bleeders, Shifts and Wipers, who are all psychics with different special powers. They can wipe memories, plant ideas, move objects, predict the future, sniff out your location, and disable with piercing screams. Special effects are not very memorable but help to carry the characters, and the plot itself is not strong enough to sustain 1hr 51 minutes of viewing entertainment. A film suitable for a rainy day

  • Push (DVD)

Disappointing action-thriller about people with amazing psychic abilities taking on a dodgy government department and a gang of crooks. At stake is a syringe of a super-drug. Hong Kong locations are great but the acting is patchy and the story hard to follow. Best thing in it is Dakota Fanning as a street-wise 13-year-old who can see the future.

  • A great film with lots of twists and action

This is a great action film - the opening scene is all action and it hardly slows down. Its kind of an xmen type film - where humans have gained extra powers and the government wants to control it by employing people with powers to hunt down others. They then either join up or get killed. Lots of twists make the story very interesting so dont go out to make a coffee in the middle or you may miss an important part! I would highly recomend this.

  • Ok to watch once

I bought this film after seeing the trailer on another DVD. Looked excellent in trailer, but unfortunately all the parts i seen in trailer were the best parts. So much more could have been done with this film, really good idea but the actual film brings you down a peg or 2 from how good the trailer was....worth seeing though.
