Additional Information
In the 21st century, genetic engineering makes possible the creation of biologically superior human specimens ("valids"), who then grow to positions of power and prestige. Would-be astronaut Vincent(Ethan Hawke) born the old-fashioned way, can only hope for a janitorial position at the elite Gattaca Corporation--until he buys the blood, urine, and identity of a perfect but paralyzed athlete. But a murder in the company's ranks attracts the attention of a detective who threatens to sniff Vincent out. A slick futuristic thriller. Academy Award Nominations--Best Art Direction.
Reviews
Entertainment Weekly - "...Corporal paranoia transforms suspense into pleasurable dread..." -- Rating: A-, New York Times - ...A handsome and fully imagined work of cautionary futuristic fiction....An impressively fine-tuned first feature..., Sight and Sound - ...GATTACA is bolstered by an elaborate, often impressive series of riffs on identity and disguise..., USA Today - "...If smart sci-fi is your vial of tea, GATTACA won't disappoint..." -- 3 out of 4 stars

  • True science fiction with a beautiful story...

This is probably one of my favourite scifi films ever, and I daresay one of the greatest examples of how glorious this genre can be if done well. Gattaca follows the story of Vincent, a man who has spent his whole life wanting to be someone else. Except, in the high-tech world he lives in, his life has already been pretty much mapped out. According to a simple blood test, he won't live past 30, and will most likely never achieve anything that the 99% of modern superbreed humans of his age will. Would that stop you from trying to reach the stars? This is a must-see for anyone, and definitely a worthy addition to any decent DVD collection.
