Very pleasant entertainment
The critics don't understand why so many people like Doc Martin, but I don't think they realise we're not all into crime, sci-fi, fantasy or 'gritty' drama. These dramas are deceptively well-written and produced, and although some of the acting leaves a lot to be desired, Martin Clunes and the lady who plays his wife are both so consistently natural that you can forgive the other actors their shortcomings. The character, Doc Martin, is a gem of misanthrope and I love him to bits.
