About this product

Product Information

Amusing adaptation of the book by Kingsley Amis directed by John Boulting (I'M ALRIGHT JACK) and starring the classic comedy coupling of Ian Carmichael and Terry-Thomas. LUCKY JIM is about an accident-prone junior lecturer at a small university who spends one hell of a weekend at the home of his disagreeable Professor Welch. Oh Christine, I think the dog's drunk!

  • Lucky Jim

Though not well known in the U.S., this screwball comedy is a gem. Based on the Kingsley Amis novel of the same name, it's a wonderful send-up of academia. One of my favorite scenes is a "cultural soiree" at the house of a pretentious head professor, featuring some of the most god-awful oboe playing imaginable. As an academician myself, I can relate to this basic scenario. Another favorite is the keynote speech delivered by the hapless main character, a junior professor---one of the best and funniest drunk scenes ever. "Lucky Jim" will be a guaranteed hit with any college professor or aspiring college professor, anyone who enjoys P.G. Wodehouse, and any fan of classic British comedy. It's a winner.

  • Classic British 50s Comedy

Great comedy classic from the fifties. The plot is fairly simple and does not require great concentration, so this is good for relaxing to. There are some excellent comedy moments, the high points being the procession and the speech. Ian Carmichael is a good lead, wandering somewhat out of his depth through problems with keeping his job at the cost of principles, and fending off a predatory female whist chasing the one he wants. The supporting cast fill their places well and the result is entertaining, despite being lightweight comedy. It also contains some good visual joke moments: Professor Welch pausing in the procession next to a statue which is his caricature.

  • Great price, great film

This film is wonderful. Usually, I would have to pay a lot more for a copy of this. Buying from eBay is easy and great prices.
