I heard a track by Jake Thackray played on the radio a week ago, loved it so much(The Blacksmith and the Toffemaker) that I instantly decided to buy this cd. I had never heard of the man before, but I was delighted and hooked when I listened to his clever lyrics, unusual style of singing and the clever humour in every song. The only sadness was to learn Jake passed away several years ago before I could see and hear him in live performance. Nevertheless I will treasure these song and hope that others will get as much pleasure from them as I have and will continue to do so.

People of a certain age will remember Jake Thackray for his genius, comical, songs. A lost art these days. Would highly recommend you give this cd a listen.

I saw Jake in the 80s playing a gig with Alex Glasgow. There were only about 10 people in a small room and it felt as if they were playing just for me. Their use of words was wonderful. I say wonderful as the word was used in those days. It was great to remember them as they were then and to recall how much pleasure they gave to a small audience.
