This book, by R. H. Angier, although originally published over seventy years ago in England and the United States, has never been surpassed in its treatment of the coloring or finishing of firearms steel. The book is a must-have treatise for the commercial gunsmith, home-based gunsmith/hobbyist or simply those individuals and shooters with an interest in the subject. Angier demystifies bluing and browning and explains how the various/different processes were accomplished to achieve a variety of specific metal colorations. He lists dozens of "recipes" of chemical ingredients for each process. Anyone with a measure of ingenuity can adapt these processes and procedures to today's world. Most of the book is readily understandable, even with the formal, British English the book is written in. Also, many of the chemical compounds Angier describes are listed with their old, archaic names, and certain equipment or components of the process may not be readily grasped by either non-technical people or even technical types in the current, "modern" era. However deciphering the terminology, translating old chemical names to more current names and understanding what a now-antique piece of equipment or process was is usually quickly accomplished using a computer and a web-based search engine. This is a book that will be a treasured reference to the interested firearms person.Read full review

Actually i have anything to say about the book. Coz its my bf who has it and i think he's enjoying and learning a lot from this book.i think thats the important... My boyfriend enjoying it. Thanx to the seller!
This book is a well known reference point giving a detailed description of techniques and recipes to achieve a desired colour to actions and barrels of guns. It has stood the test of time and remains the standard reference point. The well known bluing and browning solutions available to amatuer gunsmiths are not to the same standard as those given in the text. It must be said however that some of the chemicals are not so freely available as they once were and may be difficult to obtain from retail outlets in the UK. Nevertheless the preparatory techniques are sound with good advice when things go wrong. The book is a USA publication and hard to find in the UK. If found then expect to pay a lot more than I did through e Bay and listed in the USA.
