Mr. Wiesel survived atrocities too horrible for me to completely perceive. He speaks to the best in all of us to exemplify what the hell on earth he survived was like. He tells us with painful honesty and through his horrific memories about what happened between 1933 and 1945, when evildoers did inconceivable evil and most of the world stood by indifferently. It's possible to read Night in one sitting but when you get up to put the book away you will not be able to stop thinking about its author and his message. Instead you're likely to (and I hope you do) feel that everyone deserves respect and doesn't deserve to be demeaned let alone tortured and killed. This is true for all people; Mr. Wiesel himself spent his life teaching this. Antisemitism is unfortunately on the rise; one-third of Europeans haven't even heard of the Holocaust, which occurred during my own parents' lifetimes and they're still living. Read full review

“Night” is one the most well written books that I have ever read. This book touched me more than I ever thought possible. I think everyone needs to read this book as well as go to the National Holocaust museum in DC. One of the most eye opening experiences I have ever had in my life. Just thinking about both right now is bringing tears to my eyes. Such an important thing to read and know about especially today.

I only picked this up to read because some of my grandchildren were required to read it for school and then when the author died I was reminded ....it was a page turner ...Nobel prize winner ..a personal history story. ...something to never be forgotten. The beautiful acceptance speech for the Nobel prize was reprinted at the end and was so moving...the reason he wrote this little powerful book. Everyone should read. I am so grateful it is required reading in some of our high schools

I expected the experience of reading this book to be unbearable, but it wasn't. It was very sad but not as bad as other holocaust stories. I also fear that this is a very important part of the worlds history which will soon be forgotten because those of us old enough to have lived during this period will be passing on. It is a very short read. 113 pages. So you can read it easily and form your own opinion.

This book is very interesting. It proves the fact that quality greatly surpasses quantity. Although it can be read in one sitting, the content is very shocking, and informative. It will definitely give you great insight on how cruel the Nazis were, and how hard the Holocaust survivors had to fight to stay alive. Elie Wiesel pulls no punches, and shows us how captivating the written word can be. For other great reads similar to this one, I'd recommend Maus: My Father Bleeds History.
After reading this book by an actual Holocaust survivor, it brings to mind the awful events taking place in today's modern existence. Mr. Wiesel is so factual in his descriptions of the events that took place when he was incarcerated with his father in the concentration camps, that I am left to wonder how anyone could doubt that they did occur. I was amazed that he isn't even more emotional in the retelling of the events; especially when he mentions the babies being thrown up for target practice! In my opinion, he was trying to focus on getting the proof out to the public that these crimes actually took place as well as the vivid descriptions of the daily life he was sharing with the victims of this atrocity. I have the utmost respect for any human being that can survive this and still be able to express his faith in God and man. It is an excellent book that left me with an humble feeling of being thankful that I didn't live through that and wondering how much of the same kind of treatment will my grandchildren have to endure. Also, could I remain that dedicated to anything that I believe in?Read full review
"Never shall I forget..." begins one of the most vivid passages from this autobiographical account of the Holocaust. Elie tells his story is a way that, though disturbing in its honesty and description, will cause its readers to never forget what happened to millions of people: not only Jews but so many other groups who were persecuted and executed for merely existing. It is a powerful story that is a quick read--easily read in one night--but one that haunts the reader long after finishing. It's impossible to call it a good book due to the nature of its content, but it is one of the most informative, well written books I've ever read. If I could only read one book about the Holocaust--one book that would paint the horrible picture of that dark period of our history--Night would be it.
This is one of those books that I believe EVERYONE on this planet needs to read!! It should be in schools and everyone needs to read it. This true story about the Holocaust is a very easy and quick read. You will not want to put it down. This travesty MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN anywhere is this world. And the only way that is going to happen is to get the word out about what happened to these MILLIONS of people who were thrown from their homes, seperated from their loved ones, burned alive, tortured, starved, frozen, beaten and gassed...and for what? They were not liked by Hitler. If you think you had a bad day or you are going through a rough time...then read this book! Then your troubles will seem like nothing at all! I also recommend that you rent or buy a DVD called "Paper Clips" it's a documentary. And request a copy of the Oprah show where she & Elie Wiesel go back to Auswitz this past year. It will change your life!Read full review
I chose to buy this book for my thirteen year old daughter because she was interested in the Holocaust. I looked online at many different books for her, but I chose this one beause it was narrated in the first person. My daughter does not like to read books in past tense because she feels she can not connect to the author. She read the entire book in one day and I read it the very next day. We talked about the text, and we laughed and cried abotu things that happened to the Jews in this book. We both loved the fact that the author actually experienced and lived what he wrote about. His vivid descriptions of the trials and tortures of Jews in the concentration camps taught my daughter that life is precious and never to be taken for granted. She has also learned that the world is not perfect and if you see a wrong being done, do not sweep it under the carpet and to fight for what you believe in. A very good read for a teen!Read full review
Such a truly awesome book, came absolutely brand new, be prepared to cry your heart out in this heart wrenching book. It really tugs at your heart strings, and makes you realize how grateful we should be that we didn't go through those awful things.
