About this product

Product Information

The search is over: instead of just reading a comic book, bring one to life with Comix Zone for the Sega Genesis game console. You play as Sketch Turner, a comic book artist that gets sent into his own creation via a lightning bolt that also sends the villain Mortus of the comic book into the real world. Mortus is still made of ink and paper however, and the only way he can become real is to destroy Sketch inside the Comix Zone. The Comix Zone game for Sega Genesis is visually similar to a comic book, with Sketch crossing comic book panels, enemies ripping through the page, and other references to comic books. Each Comix Zone page looks like series of panels to resemble a real, hand-drawn comic. To make it through the game, you must complete a page and Sketch has to fight his way across the panels. The primary challenges in each panel are to defeat enemy gangs, figure out puzzles, or beat a blend of the two. The game is one of the few to utilize the six-button Genesis controller, with the extra buttons being assigned to using items in Sketch’s inventory. Comix Zone is a beat ’em up game where the main character, Sketch, has an extensive assortment of moves, which include punches, blocks, kicks, jump kicks, and a shoulder ram. Sketch can acquire several power-ups, including one that summons a rat sidekick, Road- kill, who works with him to solve puzzles. Sketch meets Alissa Cyan, and she thinks he’s a superhero, calling him The Chosen One. Alissa believes he is there to rescue their world from Mortus and the foe aliens. Despite Sketch’s decidedly un-superhero-like demeanor, Alissa directs him on a mission and uses a radio communication line to maintain a connection with him. Comics and video games are a natural combo; they’re just made to go together! And while there have been several comic book heroes in video games, there has never been anything quite like Comix Zone. When playing, there’s no recognizable hero like Spider-man; instead the hero is an unknown fictional comic artist who is stuck in the pages of his own book. And instead of simply running from left to right, you move frame-to-frame through a comic book with the bad guys being drawn in along the way. Some awesome visuals, a solid soundtrack, and the extremely unique idea make Comix Zone an interesting game.

It was very well packaged. Lots of bubble wrap and the case was in perfect condition. It took a while to be delivered though, it was delayed actually, however, it was so cheap and such a good price that I’m not mad. It was only a few days late.

Comix Zone is one the Last Hurrahs for the Sega Genesis

The Sega Genesis had a pretty long life in terms of video game consoles, spanning 8 years. One of the last games released was the game Comix Zone. Along with Vector Man, Batman and Robin and Earth Worm Jim 2 these were the last hurrah for my favorite video game console all adding a little something for future generations of games. Comix zone is a very interesting game with great graphics for the time and a very catchy sound track. The gameplay is tight and responsive, enemies are varied and enough to give you some fits but not enough to be overwhelmingly difficult. Unfortunately this game isn't too popular and kind of rare due to it being released essentially competing with the PS1, Sega's own Saturn, as well as the then upcoming N64. It's an awesome snippet of 1995 in videogame form. ...

  • One of the best on the Genesis.

Great graphics, gameplay and level design. One of the most unique games for Sega Genesis. If you collect Genesis games and don't have this game you might want to start looking into adding it to your collection.

  • A must for Sega Genesis owners/collectors!

This game is the perfect showcase of the great work of Mark Cerny and the rest of the Sega Technical Institute, back in the early 90s.

Fantastic game with bright hand drawn graphics, music and sound effects

  • One of my all time top 3 favorites

The level design was ingenious moving panel to panel defeating enemies. The controls are immaculate having settings for both the traditional 3-button controller and 6-button arcade pad. A short but challenging play through. You won't be disappointed with your purchase.
