This was on tv & I watched part of it & what I watched I liked that is why I bought it. It is a mix between Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings and Eragon. It has ancient magic with the adventure across large land in search for a Truth and a path of right & wrong. To fix the wrong & make it right this movie has adventure with magic, Dragons, Living dead souls that take over other living human being & and the path to his future. All wrongs are turned right at the end as Earthsea is saved & better then ever. I give this movie a 9out10 rating it was good as I mentioned above the mix of diff. movies in one with it's own story & path. I think it is good for ages 7-8 & up for fighting. I would like to see a second movie with this title & see the wizard grow with wisdom & new adventures. What I did not like was I thought the computer graphics could have been better for being a 2005 movie. Over all it was Good & I would recommend to fans of the above named movies.Read full review
Wish I had known about the controversy surrounding the Earthsea movie from Sci-Fi Channel before I bought it on DVD. This film takes the themes, situtaions and characters from Ursula Le Guin's books and completely disregards them. Og course, you're always going to have folks who claim that 'the book was better' when decrying a film adaptation, but to call the Earthsea fiolm an adaptation is a far stretch. For the most part, this Sci-Fi Channel shlock-fest takes the names of characters, selects some plot elements from the first three books, and hashes it all together in a campy mess that would have made Roger Corman wince. Despite having the talents of some fine actors (Danny Glover, Isabella Rosallini (sp?) and Kristin Kruek) the script gives them nothing to work with. It's trite and derivative of really bad b-movie cinema, with all the dramatic weight of an ABC Afterschool Special. (In a pivotal scene, we learn that Kristen Kruek is to be made the new High Priestess of a temple for an ancient diety because she 'scored the highest on her exams'(!) They had written exams for high priestesses! You gotta be kidding me! So my advice is, if you HAVE to see this film, wait for Sci-Fi Channel to re-run it. Don't waste your hard-earned cash on this DVD.Read full review
I like this movie for the plot. It has more sentimental value for me, because the first time I watched it, I watched it with one of my friends and she and I enjoyed scaring ourselves watching the movie. So now we just do the same. The plot is underdeveloped, and the graphics can be almost pathetic, but the plot is good overall. It is different from the book, which I also enjoyed. I bought it so I could watch it whenever I wanted to.
This is a wonderful movie.. about three hours long but well worth the watch.. If you look at life from an understanding that what ever you resist you attract and what ever you judge you encounter.. then you will appreciate this movie.. A young wizard conjures up an evil demon in a challenge from another egotistical young wizard only to find that he must now run from his creation.. but later in the movie comes to realize that since the demon is his creation then he must pursue it.. the movie it brilliant in that the more he resists and runs from his demon the more power it has over him.. then as he realizes he must embrace his creation then the tides start to change.. A brilliant movie about embracing our demons.. I highly recommend it.. A great adventure and love story as well.. Kudos from Vancouver CanadaRead full review
Characters like in Dark Kingdom, Earagon, or Merlin it can compete in current film style and technique, modern 2000 times technology. Actors were great, the girl who plays Lana off Smallville (Clark Kent's first love), and Mrs. Rosaliini from Merlin (NIMWAY) and is the first head high priest. Dragon character was neat and it is a fresh story most people had read in book from Ru Emmerson a now deceased North Western writer who was very popular as it was filmed on 2 DVD disks and is a book seies. It is about a young man, GHED, forced to set out after his true ambitions after an attack on his home village. This brings him to a mage school, a dragon, becoming his hearts desire, and trying to meet his soul mate. Also has other powerful actors in it from film and London Broadway, The head high priestess, and familiar as well as new faces. Our hero has to face the ultimate fear but it is made by magic he made doing something he was forbidden to do at magic school, where he must go face it and conquer it, plus save the realm with the new high priestess in the underground mazes. A charming yet well shot movie. A must own!Read full review
