So, I had this album on cassette back in the times when it was a new release and I was young and foolish. All the singles are on there, but they are not the reason I chose to replace this on CD decades later. There’s one track on this album - “Nothing Looks The Same In The Light” - which was, even way back then, the best on the album by far and it came to mind again all these years later and so I had to have it. I’m not converted to the joys of streaming services yet, so tracked this down for that one song. Crazy...? Maybe, but that’s the power of great music! I wanted to share it on my radio show too, so there was another motive behind the purchase. That reason aside, the album definitely sounds ‘of its time’ - instrumentation, production, subject matter, etc. - but if you’re into George Michael then it’s a must-have as the launch-pad of his career. I’m not. I just liked the aforementioned track the best. At the time though, if you hung with a certain kinda crew you needed to have this album to feel that belonging that herd members need. Thankfully I broke from the herd, but I can safely acknowledge that in hindsight.Read full review
