About this product

Product Information

Stephen E. Ambrose is the acknowledged dean of the historians of World War II in Europe. The very young men who flew the B-24s over Germany in World War II against terrible odds were an exceptional band of brothers, and, in "The Wild Blue," Ambrose recounts their unique brand of heroism, skill, daring, and comradeship with vivid detail and affection. Ambrose describes how the Army Air Forces recruited, trained, and then chose those few who would undertake the most de-manding and dangerous jobs in the war. These are the boys -- turned pilots, bombardiers, navigators, and gunners of the B-24s -- who suffered over 50 percent casualties. With his remarkable gift for bringing alive the action and tension of combat, Ambrose carries us along in the crowded, uncomfortable, and dangerous B-24s as their crews fought to the death through thick black smoke and deadly flak to reach their targets and destroy the German war machine. Many went down in flames.

The dvd shipped fairly quickly and arrived in good shape. The seller put some cardboard pieces on either side in the envelope. It offered some extra protection that I appreciated. Overall a good experience. I’d consider buying from this seller again. Seller rating: +A

  • The Wild Blue

This is a great product by an outstanding author. If you are interested in WWII history, specifically about the people who flew the B-24's over Europe, this is an excellent audiobook for you. It highlights the expreiences of one b-24 crew in particular, that of George McGovern. Yes, the same George McGovern who went on to become the Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam War Era. Regardless of how you feel about his job as SecDef, this book provides outstanding insight into the lives of bomber pilots at that time. It has a forward by the author, but is read by someone else. The reading is good, but I would have enjoyed the reading by Ambrose himself. This is a great product for any Ambrose fan. It's hard to stop once you get started.

  • Good, concise, in depth.

My dad was in the Air Force and it is interesting to hear about things he was reluctant to discuss.
