Great tool for decorating and finishing scale models.

This is one of those things you wonder how you did without. Almost essential for airbrushing of models, it's very effective for brush painting, too. The variety of clips and clamps makes it comparatively easy to find a suitable way to hold the subject in place, and with a couple of different turntable arrangements, it's not difficult to find a way to hold almost anything. Because it's intended for modelmakers, the heading questions don't really apply; it's not a major engineering piece; it's plastic, but plenty sturdy enough for most smallish models. It's not entertaining or educational in its own right but it will help you learn to produce a better finish on the models used in your hobby. Wargamers, model car and railway enthusiasts will find it very useful indeed.

well made but wasnt big enough for tamiya radio controlled cars

The two stands are well made and quite versatile. They will definitely come in handy for other model kits but my Tamiya Monster Beetle body was far too large for either stand! I was a bit surprised being as it was a Tamiya stand but you live and learn.

  • Two for the price of one

The Tamiya painting stand set initially appears to be a little expensive but this set contains two rotating stands...not just one. It gives a wide choice of positioning for whatever you are painting (usually models or diecast restotations) and, as there are two different stands, you can work on multiple parts at the same time. You don't have to wait for paint to dry before you move on. Instead you can use the other stand if you want to paint other parts. The stands come supplied with clips and they turn freely. The larger stand offers multiple choice for placing model parts and plenty of opportunity to add additional crocodile clips etc to attach additional parts for painting. Very pleased. Looks like they will fit easily into a modelling spray booth as well.

  • Extravagance vs Necessity

I thought this was going to be an extravagance for my model making, but honestly it has proven very useful. I am disabled and have a damaged back, as such I have problems sitting without supporting my upper body. This leaves me with one arm to work on models etc. Having the ability to rotate the piece I am working on (not just painting) is a real boon. I can work for longer each stint (15mins rather than just 5 without a break). It might seem like a small thing, but for me it is massive.
