About this product

Product Information

Fans around the world adore the bestselling No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series and its proprietor, Precious Ramotswe, Botswana's premier lady detective. In this charming series, Mma Ramotswe--with help from her loyal associate, Grace Makutsi--navigates her cases and her personal life with wisdom, good humor, and the occasional cup of tea. Precious is busier than usual at the detective agency when she discovers an intruder in her house on Zebra Drive--and perhaps even more baffling--a pumpkin on her porch. Her associate, Mma Makutsi, also has a full plate. She's taken up dance lessons, only to be partnered with a man with two left feet. And at Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors, where Mr J.L.B. Matekoni is already overburdened with work, one of his apprentices has run off with a wealthy older woman. But what finally rattles Mma Ramotswe's normally unshakable composure is a visitor who forces her to confront a difficult secret from her past.

The purpose of this article is to write a review of In The Company Of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith. I liked this book!!! This is the sixth book in a series by Alexander McCall Smith. The first book in this series was called The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I recommend this book and every book in this series. The main character in this book, Precious Ramotswe has been called a modern day Miss Marple and I agree with that assessment. As you probably know, Miss Marple was a character in Agatha Christie's mysteries and I would venture to say that Alexander McCall Smith is a modern day replacement for Agatha Christie. I only hope that Precious Ramotswe lives as long and has as many adventures as Miss Marple did because I want to read about them all. Actually, I maybe ...

  • In the Company of Cheerful Ladies

The book was charming. A wonderful series of 'down to earth' look at the changing way of life in Gaborone, Africa. Can't wait for the next book but will hate when I'm finished with the series. The author has a delightful group of characters that warm your heart and become like friends from far away.

  • Do yourself a favor and read this book!

This is Book Six of this series. This series has been filmed for HBO and is on HBO. It is about a woman in Botswania who opens a detective agency. She and her secretary find missing persons, solve mysteries, etc. It is delightful and full of homespun wisdom, humor, drama, pathos, etc. I highly recommend this book and the other books in the series!
