The friendship between French director Henri-Georges Clouzot (THE WAGES OF FEAR, DIABOLIQUE) and Pablo Picasso allowed Clouzot to film the legendary artist as he created 20 original works (ranging from black-and-white sketches to full color paintings). The result is THE MYSTERY OF PICASSO, an in valuable look at the most influential artist of the 20th century at work. Picasso destroyed nearly all the canvases after filming was completed. Generally considered to be one of the greatest documentaries on art ever made, the film was declared a national treasure of France in 1984.

    This is one of the most amazing films I have seen.

    To see the creative process. To view stroke by stroke of the brush, each change , while it happened. This was a great copy. It is the original film. Lately it was digitally remastered in 4K. This edition is the original, a bit grainy, allot like listening to vinyl records. I highly recommend, even if you are not a fan of Picasso, it is amazing. Shot with three types of film (sepia, black and white, and color) in 2 formats standard and panoramic.

    THE ART OF ART

    This is a remarkable document and work of art about a work of art. It is a great privilege to see Picasso at work, and to be able to see the way he begins, then see the way he seems to destroy, and how he deepens what he does. To me it showed how Picasso does things as simply as a child but as he continues to work on the piece it becomes profound, and embodies all he is and has experienced as a man and an artist. Every brush stroke is imbued with a magical quality, and the filmakers showing this participate in the magical show.

    AS GOOD AS IT GETS - PICASSO PAINTS FOR US

    This is a one-of-a-kind film. Picasso paints right before your eyes. You watch him come up with little scribbles that turn into a bullfight, or even a waterskiing scene. From the simple to the overdone, this is Picasso painting in real time. A classic, and a must-have for anyone even remotely interested in art.
