Great Saga of a Real Family!

This book is a classic in its own right. It recounts 200 years of kidnappings and human beings being subjugated to a status lower than cattle! It also gives insight into today's world, where the carryovers of attitudes from the days of Slavery; and later Jim Crow and Segregation, are still impacting - and often destroying - the lives of African-American families! I read it long ago, when the first film of the book was released. This time I understand it much better. • Roots, Hard Cover, 1st Edition

After watching the remake of Roots awhile back, I decided to buy the book to read. The first hundred pages or so, are boring until, he gets captured by the slave traders. Both, of the miniseries (1977 and 2016), don't follow the book completely, but that's Hollywood for you. Alex Haley, must've been heavily influenced by Malcolm X, writing his autobiography for him, because he makes Kunta Kinte a muslim. Still, it's not bad reading.
