Great Collection!
Package arrived in great shape and exactly as described (I got ahead if myself and opened it already before I took pictures but rest assured it was 100% in its original packaging). The set itself honestly rules. Personally as someone who’s really fascinated by behind the scenes stuff and getting some insight on how something I like was made and details on the world and characters, the stuff in this edition is great. My only gripe is that the second dvd is a little sparse in content, as it only comes with a featurette (that was neat too don’t get me wrong but that’s literally it). While I’m sure a lot of this stuff is readily available online, it’s really special to be able to hold that stuff in my hand, you know? Well, this set appeals to me as I’m the type that prefers physical copies ... A very good movie and great view of Mamoru Oshii's early work.
It is both a pity and a great thing that this Limited Collector's Edition is available for so little now. I suspect that many people are not really into Patlabor. I've known of the series for over 10 years, but have never watched it. It seems to be one of those series that people hear about but that have not attracted as much attention here in the States. So when these Limited Collector's Editions came out at a high price, many people probably ignored them. And its a shame; because they really give you your money's worth with the bonus material. But I won't complain, as I bought it for less than $20.00. :) I advise anyone else even remotely interested to give it a try while prices are low and inventory is in great supply. This movie is pretty solid, but its not perfect. Although I am sure ... It is both a pity and a great thing that this Limited Collector's Edition is available for so little now. Although I am sure it helps to know the characters from the TV and OAV series, I think that most of them are given enough time to give the audience an idea of who they are. I have still not seen anything else in the series and was given a general idea, so the movie itself can stand alone well. There are only a few characters who stand on the margins and are given little time. But that somewhat makes me curious and want to go watch the series. The music and animation are very well done. It's good for its time, which was a good time for Japanese animation anyway. The plot moves along nicely, but I do think there are some holes that could have been filled in. I felt that the ending was a little anti-climatic. I also would have liked to see more given in terms of the antagonist's motivation. Those are my only two gripes. All in all, I think that there was a good balance of action and story. In terms of presentation the menus are well done. I have only watched it with the Japanese audio, so I cannot judge the English dub. However, on the few instances that I wanted to compare the English, it sounded well enough and the lines did not seem too different from what was said originally; the same ideas were conveyed. In the end, I think that this is a movie that would appeal to the average viewer of Japanese animation. It is good to see the style of direction from Mamoru Oshii, who would later go on to do the famous Ghost in the Shell. It's worth a view. I still have a bit of bonus material to go back and watch too.

great Japanese movie
Cool movie. I am glad I bought it. I finally was able to watch it and understand the movie. Also miss the beginning for some reason. I love Japanese Anima. This is a well done movie. Just wish there was more labor scenes.
