They are definitely water proof & ideal for short trips from the doorstep to the parking lot, & other cases where constantly having to remove your shoes is inconvenient. However, I've seen cases in the past where the seal behind the ankle begin to separate after about 3 weeks of wearing. Hopefully these last throughout the winter. As a reference, 3XL is perfect for men's size 12 shoes. 4XL is too large.
