First off, i decided to buy this book because a couple of my friend got into the game but i was not winning too often. (ok one in a great while) so i decided to improve my game by learning some of the "Older basics" of the game. this proved to be a good idea for i have learned a few new (to me) ways to duel and use my cards effects better. i bought this with 2 other magic books, the official deckbuilders guide and pojo's unofficial totaly magic 10 anniversary edition. the 3 have been a real eye opener. but i really want to talk about this book. i do like this book alot. i found insight on how to get rid of some of the problems i have been facing in my duels with my friends with out loosing a ton of life points or creatures. my friend and i play house rules but after reading these books i and thinking on changing my style so that i can start playing tournaments. i am currently working on restructuring my deck to do this. unfortunately i do have something bad to say about this book.one it is a little dry so i had to read it a bit at a time then set down and think about what i read. this took alot of time and that is why i haven written my review sooner. Also, i found the characters a little cheesy, i do understand that they were written for all age groups. the character were real informative on what they had to say on the particulars of the game. over all i really like this book and i am going to delve back into it to get some more ideas. and maybe catch sompthing i didnt see the first time.Read full review
I bought this because the one my brother got me was falling to pieces. I like reading the history in the book, and reading some of the old stories from Richard Garfield. There's really nothing I dislike about this at all. This, however is a heavily outdated rulebook, so I would not recommend getting this for someone who is new to the game. I would recommend this to someone who wants a little piece of MTG History, and would enjoy reading through some of the stories and history. Also, it has some variant ways to play that are fun.
