A re-imagining of the popular and influential 1994 PC title X-COM: UFO Defense, XCOM: Enemy Unknown takes place in the near future when hostile and technologically superior aliens have invaded Earth. To fight back, the world's governments have formed an elite paramilitary organization, and as commander of this "Extraterrestrial Combat Unit," PS3 players must coordinate a worldwide effort that includes planning combat missions, controlling the soldiers in battle, researching and reverse-engineering alien technology, and creating and upgrading the XCOM base. Instead of constructing bases all around the world, gamers conduct business from a massive underground bunker that is sliced in half to offer something of an ant-farm view, and they launch satellites to keep watch over specific countries. When a country is under assault players send in a group of unique soldiers to fend off the invaders in turn-based skirmishes. In battle each character can freely move once per turn, and perform one action per turn as they maneuver around highly destructible environments. Gamers can then excavate and install facilities at their base for things like resource collection, alien interrogation, and soldier upgrades, though each successive room costs more to install. Every decision players make in XCOM: Enemy Unknown has lasting consequences. When soldiers die, they stay dead forever, turning their upgrades and advancements into sunk costs. And with assaults taking place around the globe, gamers must make strategic decisions about where and when they send their limited resources. The only way to truly lose the game is to have eight member countries leave XCOM's council, and abandoning one country in order to save another can result in severe political consequences. The sole multiplayer option in XCOM: Enemy Unknown resembles a classic "Team Deathmatch" mode, but the action stays varied because gamers are given the option of filling out their roster with units from both sides of the conflict. Ranked matches offer players 10,000 points to spend on six units, their weapons, their gear, and their special powers, while private matches can be customized in any way the participants see fit.

Paid $40 dollars for shipping, shipping as advertised was USPS Priority and the seller picked the slowest and cheapest option for them, which I can understand, but don't advertise USPS Priority if you're not going to do that option. Took the seller 5 days to ship the item and then it took another week and a half for the package to even get here. The xbox itself seems to work fine so far, there was a dent on the corner of it that was not disclosed... Mediocre experience overall.

Captures the essence of the original X-Com UFO Defense from the original PlayStation
I loved the original X-Com UFO Defense - This version is fairly similar in gameplay, just better graphics and animations. Hard for me to say which version I like better!!!! I will likely be wasting plenty of time on this game now! - Which is good bc that means I'm not out spending money on other things! lol

A very fun game you should play, does not live up to the original.
I bought this game because I really like the x com franchise. The first one I played was x com interceptor, which is a space dog fighter game. Then I went back and played the older x com gamesX com has been a pretty fun game. What was good about this game: For the most part it was pretty faithful to the original and had some improvements. For example, it gives a hint at where the aliens are hiding on the map so you don't spend an hour looking for them. The original was pretty annoying when a single alien would hide somewhere and it would take you forever to find that one stupid sectoid. The animations are a nice touch. I really like being able to change the appearance of my soldiers. I also really enjoy the different soldier types and how you get to choose special abilities for ... What was bad: It felt like a lot of your managerial control was taken away in this title vs. the original. For example, you can't build more bases beyond your first one. You can't have more than one skyranger. You can't do anything with your base when the skyranger is away. In the original there might be mulitple alien craft and crash sites all at the same time, and you have to manage all of them at once. In the original, while your craft are out, you can continue working on your base. This dynamic is sorely missing from this game. One thing I really hate is that you can't sell the stuff you manufacture for a profit. This was an awesome feature of the original game that I really enjoyed. They have a pale shadow of this system with requests for items that occasionally pop up randomly. But I want to control when I sell stuff, not the game. There aren't any consumable items. Even items that should be consumable, like med kits, are perpetually around. There is infinite ammunition and you never have to build it. This breaks the immersion for me. I would much rather have consumable items that I have to manage and constantly build tied in with selling my manufactured goods than what they did here. In this game, there is basically only one thing on your plate at any given time so the game basically walks you through what to do in a linear fashion. This hand holding approach to game design is an unfortunate trend in modern games that isn't unique to this franchise. For this reason I would say that the original is a more immersive experience despite its archaic graphics. And this isn't nostalgia talking, I first played the original xcom in 2007 on dosbox. It felt like there was an actual world outside of your operation, whereas this games seems to unnaturally center around you. To some extent it is unfair to compare this to the original game. If you pretend the original doesn't exist, then this game stand up very well on its own. It is a very fun experience. Expect to have fun with this, but don't expect it to be better than the original.

If you like turn-based strategy and are looking for a fix on PS3/360, buy!!
I absolutely love this game! First off, let me state that some of my favorite games of all time are turn based strategy games. A couple stand-outs being games like Civilization II and III (though I hated Civ Revolution for PS3), Advanced Wars on Nintendo platforms, and Valkyria Chronicles for PS3. This game is a must for turn-based strategy fans. The levels of micro management are fairly in-depth. You get to customize your base along with making special rooms for Labs, power plants, engineering, etc. You get to develop unique weapons and armor, upgrade your troops with special abilities, and work with (or not with) other countries around the world as you combat the invading aliens. There has been a lack of meaningful turn-based strategy on consoles as of late. XCOM helps to fill ... I absolutely love this game! I really enjoy this game. It shows influences from other games that are not a bad thing, while sticking to the roots of what makes XCOM great. Turn based games like this give you the time you need to plan and have your guys work together which is the only way to be productive. Different classes make the soldiers so different from each other and more fun to upgrade. I would consider this a difficult strategy/rpg type single player game. Mom gets relax time all is happy in my world
This was one of the best games ive got my son I had to stop him from trying to complete the whole this.go like it was a marathon.I dont even think he blinked for a few hours he was glued to the screen the quality of the games is excellent im siper happy with my purchase
